365 Days of Balloons

Hi All,

First all, happy new year to everyone!  December has been pretty busy for me.  I spent a lot of my weekends working at the San Francisco Fairmont hotel for their holiday festivities.  It was a great learning experience and I met some amazing people at the hotel.  I might upload some pictures of the event.

So, I came across an interesting read on Yahoo recently.  Nothing new for balloon twisters as I have seen it done before, but I think it was only known in our small twister community.  I am surprised that this got onto Yahoo, which means more exposure for balloon twisters! Yea!

So, this artist has decided to create balloon art for 365 days.  Yep, 1 design per day.  At the time of reading the article, she was on day 100.  That takes a lot of creativity and dedication.  Some of her designs are pretty simple and some are complex.  I believe she is a graphic designer who learned to twist balloons when she was a little girl and decided to pick up the hobby again.  As an artist, you can really see the evolution of her designs.  The article has some of her work, but if you have time, check out her Tumblr page!  There is some amazing art there.

Happy Thanksgiving!

And here is a turkey to celebrate!!

Much has happened since my last entry....which was almost a year ago.... Yes, I know.  Dear blog, it has been a while.  Let me update you on what has been going on these past couple of months.

October was insane!!  Went to probably the closest thing to the major balloon convention that occurs at the beginning of each year.  It was a balloon workshop that was held here in Northern California.  4 days of non-stop balloon fun and learning from some of the industry's leaders!

I learned a ton of stuff and met some great people and shared a lot of ideas!  I have already started to implement some of the techniques and ideas into my current gigs and practice sessions!

This blog is basically about creativity and inspiration.  And there was a lot at the balloon workshop.  To me, it is always interesting to get ideas, tips and thoughts on other artists; their approach to balloons.  The energy in the room was incredible and it made me push myself more as a balloon artist.  I can't wait until next year!!!

Where does inspiration come from?

Yesterday was a great day:  I went to watch a show at a library, had some good Chinese food and also had a gig for an adorable 3 year old's birthday party.

The chain of events from yesterday has lead me to thinking, "Where does inspiration come from?"  As a balloon artist - and all other artist as well, inspiration can come from anywhere.  Watching the kids show at the library was quite entertaining.  Not just the show in general, but how he performed his show, the intricacies of his show, his comedic timing.  It really makes me appreciate the thought, hard work and time that is needed to create something.  I remember hearing from one of my professors in college, "you know you've done your job well when people think 'that's easy, I can do that.'"

The kids party.  That was a blast!!!  It never fails to amaze me the amount of joy and the big smile that comes from a kid when you had them a balloon.  Not only the children, but also adults!  Balloons truly bring joy to people, and that's what the goals is about.  It's funny how quickly adults can become children when it comes to balloons.

Now, how does good Chinese food fit into all this?   Good question.  I don't know, that was just what was happening in my day...  Maybe something will inspire me from it.
