Best Holiday Ever!!!

Yes, I know.  I have been away from the blog for a while..a very LONG while.  Anyways, I was very surprised that I had some visitors, even though I took the blog off publication for a time.

Anyways, it is October, which means it's my favourite holiday this month.  That's right: Halloween!!  I think that is the best time to really get creative by creating all these creepy monsters.  Not just creepy, but cute monsters as well (for those who don't like creepy).

I'm so excited because I decided to deck out the front garden with a bunch of Halloween balloons (both creepy and cute).  Purchased a fog machine and a disco light.  All I have to do is go to the lighting store to pick up some coloured gels for the porch lamp for some added effect (so glad that I majored in theatre).

All I have to do is start building the zombies and goblins and ghosts (oh my)!  Oh and of course, purchase candy.

Ooooohhh, this is going to be so exciting!!!

First Balloon Jam!!!

Went to my first ever balloon jam in the area.  I am very much filled with adrenaline and excitement right now.  Just talking to other balloon artists and magicians really gets my mind rolling with new ideas and techniques.

There wasn't that many twisters in the room, maybe about 12 at most, but the amount of talent was huge!  I have never meant a group of people more giving than balloon people. One artist was teaching another balloon twister how to blow up a 260Q (the long twisting balloon) by mouth; something he has never done before.  And when he got that initial bubble (the hardest part), everyone was excited and clapped.  Believe me, mouth inflating a balloon is extremely difficult.  I've even passed out a couple of times and definitely DO NOT recommend doing it.

Anyways, at the end of the jam session, I handed out my balloon to the restaurant staff.  The store manager afterwards requested the "Rose in Glass" balloon (from Beauty and the Beast), so I made it for him.  Also taught him how to do the basic balloon dog!!  Maybe another balloon twister in the making?? :)

Where does inspiration come from?

Yesterday was a great day:  I went to watch a show at a library, had some good Chinese food and also had a gig for an adorable 3 year old's birthday party.

The chain of events from yesterday has lead me to thinking, "Where does inspiration come from?"  As a balloon artist - and all other artist as well, inspiration can come from anywhere.  Watching the kids show at the library was quite entertaining.  Not just the show in general, but how he performed his show, the intricacies of his show, his comedic timing.  It really makes me appreciate the thought, hard work and time that is needed to create something.  I remember hearing from one of my professors in college, "you know you've done your job well when people think 'that's easy, I can do that.'"

The kids party.  That was a blast!!!  It never fails to amaze me the amount of joy and the big smile that comes from a kid when you had them a balloon.  Not only the children, but also adults!  Balloons truly bring joy to people, and that's what the goals is about.  It's funny how quickly adults can become children when it comes to balloons.

Now, how does good Chinese food fit into all this?   Good question.  I don't know, that was just what was happening in my day...  Maybe something will inspire me from it.

Loving the new inspiration!

Got some new twisting DVDs this weekend and am loving what I am learning.  I was up pretty late last night trying to implement the new techniques I've learned with some other ideas that I have had.

I think it is totally cool when you can take a basic structure and by just adding a few modifications change it into something else completely.  That really helps in doing line work or restaurant work (and if you are in a pinch).  Can't wait to post up pictures up!

Yea! First EVER blog post!

First ever blog post!  Nothing much to report today.  Just got done watching re-runs of "The Unpoppables" on TLC.  The ideas they come up with is absolutely brilliant.  Only makes me want to push myself creatively to see what I can come up with.

Still trying to figure out how Brian did the couch.  I managed to come up with something similar to Brian's design.  It used six balloons and it managed to hold my weight.  Need to find time to build a full scale model to see what happens.
